Helio Lima was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Mr. Lima started dancing at the age of 10. He studied with Patricia Salgado at Escola de Dança Petite Danse in Rio de Janeiro for 9 years. In 2009 he placed amongst the top ten finalists of the Youth America Grand Prix and was awarded the Sir Logan Campbell ballet award. He was also awarded scholarships to Washington Ballet School and The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School but accepted the Jerome Robbins Foundation Scholarship to study full-time at the New Zealand School of Dance. Late 2010, he joined The Western Australian Ballet Company, for Marcia Haydée’s season of The Sleeping Beauty, under Ivan Cavallari. Mr. Lima joined Royal New Zealand Ballet Company in 2011 under Ethan Stiefel and he also danced with Boston Ballet, under Mikko Nissinen. One of his favorite roles that he performed was Albrecht from Johan Kobborg and Ethan Stiefel’s production of Giselle. Other favorites include Dream Pas in Val Caniparoli’s Lady of the Camellias and Blue Bird in Marcia Haydeé’s The Sleeping Beauty. Mr. Lima joined Ballet Arizona in 2015 as a principal dancer where he’s performed lead roles in The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, La Bayadère, The Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia, Swan Lake, Cinderella and Giselle to name a few. He has performed in other ballets by Ib Andresen, guest choreographers and works by George Balanchine including Rubies from Jewels, Square Dance, Symphony in Three Movements, Agon, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, and La Sonnambula. More recently Mr. Lima danced the role of Diego in the U.S. Premiere of Frida by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. In 2024 Mr Lima choreographed an original ballet for Southwest Youth Ballet Theatre's Celebration performance.
